Most of your videos are not worth retrofitting for AI. Triage first.

Retrofitting a video for AI takes real work, so the first step is not optimizing, it is triage. Keep the effort for the videos that answer a real question your ideal buyer is searching for, and skip the ones that do not. The two tests are whether a video is answer-rich and whether it is buyer-aligned. Most libraries have fewer qualifying videos than teams expect, which means less work, not more.

Why triage comes first.

Making a video findable is not free. It means rewriting the title as a real question, writing an answer-first description, correcting the transcript, and labeling chapters as the questions they answer. Spending that effort on a video that was never going to be cited is wasted. So before optimizing anything, sort the library.

The three buckets.

The mistake most teams make: optimizing for popularity.

The videos worth retrofitting are not always the most popular ones. Popularity and citation potential are different things. A most-viewed brand film may answer nothing, while a quiet, unglamorous tutorial that nails the exact question a buyer types at 11pm has real citation potential. Views measure past attention. Citation potential measures whether the video answers a question someone is asking now.

The two tests.

For each video, ask two things, and prioritize the videos that pass both. Everything else can wait or be skipped for good.

  • Is it answer-rich? Does it actually answer a question, in words a machine can read?
  • Is it buyer-aligned? Does it answer a question your best-fit buyer is really searching for?

The takeaway.

Findability is not about doing everything to every video. It is about doing the right things to the right ones. Triage first, then retrofit the winners.
