How do you make a video findable by AI?

Updated August 2026

To make a video findable by AI, you optimize the text around it, not the video itself. AI answer engines cannot watch video. They read the title, description, transcript, chapters, on-page text, and structured data. Get those right and your video can be found, read, and cited in AI answers.

Presence on YouTube is not the same as findability. A great video with no text layer is invisible to the machines. The work is translation: taking a video you already have and expressing it in a form AI can read. Most of it is retrofitting existing content, not producing new content.

There are eight steps, and each has its own guide: title the video as a real buyer question, write an answer-first description, publish an accurate corrected transcript, add chapters with timestamps, build a watch page on your own site, add VideoObject, Clip, and FAQ schema, seed and corroborate off-platform, and keep it current.

This matters most for video because of where AI looks. In BrightEdge's analysis, YouTube is the most-cited domain in Google's AI Overviews at about 29.5%, ranks number one there, and is cited far more than any other video platform across engines, holding roughly a 20% average citation share. If your proof is on video, it belongs on YouTube, prepared correctly.
